VA Nurses Make Scarves

Cool Nurses
Category: General

Last month at the Royal Sonesta Hotel in New Orleans, Angel Greta Perry spoke to the Nurses Organization of Veterans Affairs (NOVA) attending their national conference.  Greta is Louisiana State Coordinator for Soldiers' Angels, and took the time to thank the nurses for their support and congratulation them on a great fundraiser effort.

The retired NOVA nurses have taken Soldiers' Angels as their platform.  They sewed Cool Scarves and then invited people at the conference to sponsor each scarf with a donation.  This raised $1320 raised for a scholarship fund for VA Nurses and programs for veterans, and the scarves will be distributed to the troops by Soldiers' Angels.
Each scarf included a personal note of thanks to the soldier from a VA Nurse. As VA Nurses, they see the sacrifices made by America's military men and women and their families, and are pleased to participate in a project that directly helps the active duty soldier. The materials and sewing were all donated by VA nurses, allowing all "sponsorships" to go directly to the scholarship fund.

Greta reports that the speaking engagement was very well received, as attending nurses from across the country were anxious to become involved with Soldiers' Angels and learn about the resources available to the heroes they serve.

An Angel salute goes out to Greta for carrying the Angel banner high, and to the NOVA nurses for finding a way to help our veterans both now and in the future!
Mary Raymer, PhD, RN (VA Nurse Retired); Greta Perry, LA State Coordinator for Soldiers' Angels; Ann Narcisco, RN  (VA Medical Center Palo Alto, CA); and  Marian Erhart, RN (VA Nurse Retired) pose with a Soldiers' Angels Lousiana banner and samples of the Cool Scarf pacaages assembled by nurses of the Nurses Organization of Veterans Affairs (NOVA) at their national convention in New Orleans.
