Evans' Statement on Principi Resignation
(December 9, 2004)

Washington, DC - Rep. Lane Evans, ranking Democratic member of the House Veterans Affairs Committee and senior member on the Armed Services Committee, today issued the following statement on the resignation of the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, Anthony J. Principi:

"I am proud that Tony Principi is a friend and fellow veteran and I wish him well in his future endeavors."

"He was an exceptional leader during his military service and continued to exhibit great character and integrity throughout his time on Capitol Hill and his tenure as Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs."

"He's been a passionate advocate for servicemembers, veterans and their families - Tony has truly earned our trust and respect."

"I'm especially appreciative of the refreshing candor and keen insight he brought to the working relationship with our committee during these trying times."

"The next VA Secretary would do well to study Tony Principi and build upon his work."
