Where Have All the Nurses Gone?
In her new book, "Where Have All The Nurses Gone", Faye Satterly - a registered nurse with over 20 years of experience - speaks of many issues all too familiar to nurses today. She notes the average nurse today is 45 years old and looking forward to retirement. Twelve percent of nurses are under age 30. Nursing schools report decreasing enrollments and fewer graduates. The result is that the nurses who are on the front lines of healthcare are feeling overwhelmed and leaving the field for less stressful opportunities outside hospital settings.

She doesn't just rehash the statistics that we have heard before. She believes there are answers, which require candid examination about what the public expects of healthcare. The book is referred to as a call for action to counter the nursing shortage and ensure that caring regains its premium status in healthcare.
