Senator Kerry Visits W. Roxbury VA Hospital Sunday

March 11, 2007
(WBZ) WEST ROXBURY - Massachusetts Senator John Kerry paid a visit to patients and staffers at the VA hospital in West Roxbury on Sunday.

Kerry has been visiting several VA facilities across the country, including Walter Reed, to check on conditions and the people.

"This place is terrific," said Kerry about the West Roxbury VA Hospital. "It does a good job, but like many places, they are strapped by funding, which we have been fighting for each of the last few years, and hopefully now, the administration will understand that this is a priority and they'll get the job done."

Just last week, Kerry said he spent some time at Walter Reed.

Kerry said he found the VA hospitals do provide a good quality of care, but they are strapped for funds. According to Kerry, the Senate has passed a move to increase the funds to the hospitals, but it has gotten "lost in the shuffle."

"If we make the funding available, I believe we can achieve what we need to."
