NOVA Foundation Scholarship Application 2011 – Now accepting applications.
The NOVA Foundation Scholarship application site is now open and accepting applications for 2011-2012 scholarships. Deadline for submitting application is July 20, 2011.
If you submitted an application between April 5 and May 31, 2011 – Please note that you need to resubmit your application at this time. Due to the technical problems with the server, we cannot retrieve the previously submitted applications. Thank you for your patience as we resolved the server issues.
Application instructions and eligibility criteria can be located on the VA Nursing Office Intranet site at: http://vaww.va.gov/nursing NOTE: To apply you must use the VA Intranet. The application cannot be accessed or submitted via internet.
Membership in the Nurses Organization of Veterans Affairs is not a requirement for the scholarship.
We will complete the selection of scholarship recipients and award the funds by the end of August 2011.
Again – Deadline for submission of your application is July 20, 2011.

For School Year 2011-2012

The purpose of this scholarship is to promote the advancement of nursing practice, by providing scholarships of $1,500 each to VA employees who are enrolled or accepted for enrollment in a baccalaureate, masters, post-masters, or doctoral degree program.
During the 2011-2012 academic year, a minimum of eleven (11) $1,500 scholarships will be awarded.
Of these, a maximum of five (5) of the scholarships will be awarded to RNs enrolled in baccalaureate programs in nursing.

- Enrolled or accepted for enrollment in a baccalaureate, masters, post-masters or doctoral program
- Positive recommendations from Academic Program Director/Dean and VA Nurse Executive

Eligible Educational Programs:
|
|
- Baccalaureate program in nursing
- Masters, post-masters and doctoral programs in nursing, or a related field if applicant has a baccalaureate degree in nursing
- All bachelors, masters and post-masters nursing programs must be accredited by the National League for Nursing (NLN) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing
- All non-nursing programs must be accredited by the nationally recognized accrediting body for the field

- Diploma or associate degree programs
|
|
|

- Career goals
- Professional and civic activities
- Academic performance
- Recommendations of the Academic Program Director/Dean and VA Nurse Executive

2011-2012 academic year. Selected applicants may re-apply in future years.

Obligation to Work in VA after Receiving Scholarship:
Scholarship recipients must submit the Academic Achievement Report to the NOVA Board. The Report form with instructions for completion is located on the Scholarship application website and the NOVA Foundation website (www.vanurse.org)

Application Deadline:
Applications must be received by May 31, 2011. Finalists will be required to provide the following information once notified:

- Official transcript reflecting GPA
- Letter of acceptance to the academic program for which the scholarship is to be used
- Recommendations of the Academic Program Director/Dean and VA Nurse Executive

Jesse Brown
Memorial Scholarship
|
|
|
For School Year 2011-2012

The Honorable Jesse Brown (1944-2002) was the Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs from 1993 through 1997. As a veteran himself, he spent much time in the VA Medical Centers and Clinics around the country - both as an administrator and a patient. He saw how nurses impact the lives of the veterans. He saw the dedication nurses have when it comes to caring for veterans. Secretary Brown, himself, became an advocate for not only the veterans, but for nurses committed to serving veterans. A special NOVA Foundation Scholarship in the amount of $3,000, in the name of Jesse Brown, will be awarded annually to an outstanding VA Nurse who demonstrates compassionate, quality care - the same care Secretary Brown and all veterans have come to appreciate and expect in The Department of Veterans Affairs.
